PW Horizons Monthly Bible Study

Paul wrote at a time when Christians expected Jesus’ imminent return; he challenged his friends to be ready when that day came. Two thousand years later, the church is still waiting, still affirming that Jesus will return, and still proclaiming that this world has already been transformed by God’s life-giving love. Our challenge remains to live in ways that demonstrate our trust in the resurrection.

Many of the questions asked by our earliest siblings in faith remain ours, too. How can our lives demonstrate our trust in Jesus Christ’s victory over death? What do we do when different understandings of the gospel undermine church unity? How can Christians understand gender and sexuality? When conflict arises, how do we deal
with it?

This Bible study will raise many questions while providing few direct answers. Those, you will seek yourself through prayerful reading, thinking, and discussion. I pray that unity in Jesus Christ will guide you and your study group and inspire you, together, to do everything in love.

End Date: Tuesday, May 11th, 2026

Prayer Shawl

The Prayer Shawl Ministry is a circle dedicated to making shawls to wrap those in need of comfort in God’s love.

The individual hand-knitting or crocheting the shawl begins the process with prayers and blessings for the recipient of the completed shawl. These prayers are continued throughout the creation of the shawl. Upon its completion, a final blessing is offered before the shawl is sent on its way.

The creator of the prayer shawl is never sure who will receive their work of art. All they know is that someone will be blessed by it, and they pray that God’s healing love will flow into their lives through the shawl they have created. The prayer shawl ministry has changed lives and helped begin the process of healing for many.

Give the Gift of a Shawl

Shawls can be given to individuals in a variety of circumstances:

  • To support someone undergoing medical procedures or suffering through illness and/or recovery
  • To comfort someone after a loss, in times of stress, or during a period of bereavement
  • To celebrate a marriage or the birth of a child

Shawls are located in a display in the hallway across from the Library. Church members may take a shawl for anyone they feel is in need of this kind of support. We simply ask that you fill out an information card located on the display cabinet.

Join Us!

If you would like to knit or crochet shawls to contribute to this ministry, please join us on the 3rd Tuesday of the month in the Hearth Room from 7 – 9 PM, September through May.  If you have any questions, please contact Corinne Kee.

Threads to Heal the Heart: Quilt Ministry

Can you touch a prayer? Can you pull it close and feel its comfort? Threads to Heal the Heart is a prayer group ministry at First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth. This group is dedicated to prayerfully making quilts intended for anyone experiencing an illness, depression, grief, or a variety of serious situations. Many prayer and baptismal quilts have been given both locally and internationally, since the beginning of this ministry in 2001.

Give the Gift of a Quilt

Friends and family can request a quilt. Complete the form labeled “Threads to Heal the Heart” found on the table across from the library or download a copy of the form by clicking on the Threads to Heal the Heart Request Form button below. Complete the form and drop it in the Threads to Heal the Heart mailbox in the narthex. After receiving the request, a quilt is selected, prayers are lifted for the family, and then you will be called to pick up the quilt. You can then deliver it to the person in need. There is no charge for the quilt.

Join Us!

You are invited to participate in whatever way you feel called to assist in this prayer quilt ministry. The beauty of combining the gift of prayers with the gift of a quilt is in the interweaving connections. Each of us contributes towards uplifting the recipient, and each other. Through fellowship, God touches each of us in a special way.

Threads to Heal the Heart meets on the 4th Monday of each month from 12:30-3:30 PM in Room 134.

Some of the ways you can participate in this ministry are:

  • Pressers and fabric cutters
  • Quilt piecers and assemblers
  • Hand stitchers
  • Scrapbookers

Although we do not accept any payment for the prayer quilt, donations are accepted and help sustain this ministry.
