Fitness In Christ

Fitness In Christ

Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit.

3 John 2:1 NLT

Churches typically provide many wonderful opportunities to nurture their members’ minds and spirits, but they don’t always focus on nurturing the unique bodies that God gave them.  The Fitness in Christ group at First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth (FPCP) offers opportunities to take a more holistic approach to living the best life God designed for us.  Our goal is to enhance our spiritual life by providing entry-level options to get moving, learn more about healthy living habits, and do so in a Christ-centered community.  We invite people of all ages and skill levels to join us for any of our activities!

Participation at all of our events is always free but the Fitness In Christ group does have a heart for mission outreach.  Each year they designate one of our FPCP mission partners as the recipient of any donations participants choose to make throughout the year.  In 2023, we have chosen Colina de Luz Christian Home for Children in Mexico as the recipient of all of our donations this year.

Fun in the Sun Event

Each year in early June, about 40-50 people gather at Helms Haven in Hines Park for a morning of their choice of walking, running, cycling, yoga, and/or kickboxing. We welcome FPCP family and friends of all ages from strollers to seniors.  Nutrition consulting with a registered dietician is available throughout the morning and the event is capped off with a healthy lunch for everyone.  The Fitness in Christ team has a passion for mission and this event raises awareness and thousands of dollars for the annual partner of choice.  Keep an eye on the Upcoming Events page in April & May to learn more about the next Fun In The Sun event!

Never Leave the Chair Yoga

Would you like to spend time with an elderly friend or relative that will be both healthy and enjoyable for both of you? Zoom with them Tuesdays at 2:30 PM to a chair yoga class taught by church member, Sharon Holcomb. This class involves no standing but is a comfortable, seated workout great for stress reduction. Several 90+ yr olds currently attend but all ages are welcome to try this FREE class.

Nutrition Presentations

If you’re interested in learning more about healthy nutrition, the Fitness In Christ team hosts periodic nutrition seminars led by Denise Stewart, a registered dietician.  She shares valuable information on topics like gut health, inflammation, and sleep.  Watch the Upcoming Events page for the next Nutrition Presentation.

For a summary of past nutrition presentations click to download a handout from the presentation you’re interested in:

Private nutrition consultations can be booked by appointment with Denise Stewart.

Prayer Walking and Mindfulness Practice

Christ-centered practices of prayer, silence, meditation, and scripture reading can help us reconnect with God amidst the busyness of life.  Watch the Upcoming Events page for an opportunity to join us for a prayer walk or a mindfulness practice.

Saturday Mornings on Hines Drive

Join a group of walkers, runners, and/or cyclists on Saturday mornings from May through September who gather in Hines Park where it’s closed to traffic.  It’s a refreshing way to reconnect with friends and kick off your weekend!  If you’d like to connect with this group, please contact Patrick Murphy.
