Christian Education

Christian Education

Our family ministry exists to Engage children and teenagers in Christ, Equip them to be disciples, Empower them to do God’s will, and Embrace our community because every child is created in the image of God.

Children’s Ministry

First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth (FPCP) offers many growth opportunities for our littlest family members from infancy through 5th grade.  We focus on learning about God’s plans for our lives through music, Bible stories, prayer, memory verses, crafts, and play!

Safety is very important to us.  To ensure the safety of all the children we have 2-3 adults present in the room at all times and all volunteers are background checked.  We ask that an FPCP Nursery & Sunday School Information & Medical Form be completed for every child participating in any Children’s Ministry activity and submitted to our Director of Children’s Ministry, Laura Craig via email or placed in Laura’s mailbox in the copyroom.

Nursery (Infant – 3 years)

Ages:  Infant – 3 years old

Location:  Room 138

Meeting Time:  Sunday mornings at 9:30 and 11:15 AM

We are excited to play with and care for our church family’s youngest people in the Nursery during both of our worship services at 9:30 and 11:15 AM.  Children may be dropped off prior to or during the services as needed.

Cleanliness is a priority for us – toys and surfaces are disinfected between services.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Parents regularly utilizing infant and toddler care are asked to consider volunteering to assist in the Nursery at least once a month.  All adults (18 years and up) are welcome to volunteer once they have submitted and passed a background check.

If you have any questions or would like to volunteer, please contact Laura Craig, our Director of Children’s Ministry at 734-453-6464 ext. 110.

Children (4 years – 5th grade)

Ages:  4 years old – 5th grade

Location:  Room 41

Meeting Time:  Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM

Sunday School:

From September through May, our elementary-aged children are all invited to participate in Sunday School during our Sanctuary worship service at 9:30 AM.  All children will begin in the worship service with their family and will be dismissed to Sunday School after the Children’s message.  Children may be picked up from Room 41 after the service.

Each week we learn a Bible verse, create a craft, and play interactive games.  We are journeying through the Old and New Testaments and discovering friendship with Jesus throughout God’s story.  All of this is designed to help our children know and feel the love of God through the relationships they grow with our teachers and each other.

Summer in Worship:

During the summer (May – early September), we invite children to worship with their parents.  We provide worship bags filled with faith-based activities to keep little hands busy.  These are available as you enter both the Sanctuary and Upper Room worship services.

Volunteer Opportunities:

If you love Jesus and enjoy sharing that love with young children, please consider joining our Sunday morning teaching team.  We supply everything you need to be a part of a morning of learning through play and there’s the added bonus of developing long-term relationships with the kids of our church!  If you have any questions or would like to help on Sunday mornings, please reach out to Laura Craig, our Director of Children’s Ministry, at 734-453-6464 ext. 110.

Vacation Bible School

Each summer, we host a week-long VBS for the children of our community. We invite children to bring their friends and family to enjoy mornings filled with Christ-centered stories, music, crafts, games, and snacks.  All of these activities are based on a theme that carries throughout the week focusing on helping children to turn to God for their needs and to teach them to serve as the hands of God in ensuring that the needs of others are met.  Our church is decorated and transformed into a children’s wonderland and they meet people of all ages from their peers to young adults to senior citizens throughout their week.

Confirmation Class

Confirmation is when a youth student declares their beliefs, becoming full independent members of the church. At First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth (FPCP), the Confirmation Class is a 9-month, weekly class that precedes the decision to take this vow and claim faith as one’s own. We learn what it means to be a Christian and what is unique about being a Presbyterian.

We believe that lasting faith is anchored in study and strengthened by bringing our questions, addressing our doubts, learning how to look for answers, and discerning the truth. We have full confidence that truth stands up to questioning and deepens our relationship with God.

Together we explore why and how to nurture a personal relationship with God, what it means to be created in God’s image, and the unique gifts that make each of us an essential part of God’s plan. There are many different ways we live out our faith in the world so as a class we put the lessons into action through worship, study, prayer, fellowship, service, and mission. We discuss how to respectfully demonstrate our faith with others in the context of differences of opinion and of faith tradition, recognizing that everyone is a part of God’s creation and receives God’s love even when we disagree.

A student may become a candidate for Confirmation class whenever they and their family believes that they are ready for the curriculum. Many families find that this is best during their 8th grade school year, but age can vary. Because we believe that the course is most enriching when youth can go through it together as a peer group, we assemble classes when we have a substantial number of students who are ready to participate.

Please reach out to be a part of this community of young believers and seekers. We look forward to hearing from you!

Adult Life-Long Learning

At First Pres Plymouth (FPCP), we offer several adult Bible Study options for growing your faith.  These groups provide an excellent place to explore the truths of the Bible with an opportunity to discuss how to apply these concepts to our everyday lives.  It is within these groups that attendees encourage one another to grow a stronger and closer relationship with God and also develop deep-rooted friendships within the group.
