Our final look at the parables focuses on the Parable of the Weeds, perhaps better known as the Parable of the Wheat and the Tares. Rev. Schaefer talked about “Getting Rid of the Weeds” in our lives. This parable speaks not only of ridding the farmer’s crops of bad weeds, but also of clearing the personal weeds from our hearts and our minds. It’s not up to someone else (the servants) to clear our weeds. It’s up to us to do this cleanup as we recognize those weeds. Weeds grow up so easily and so quickly, and sometimes, it’s difficult to tell the difference between weeds and wheat, especially in the early days of growth. Sometimes, the weed spring up so fast that they surprise us with their presence. Jesus gives us the way to remove those weeds, and challenges us to tidy up our lives.
