Today was both Memorial/Remembrance Sunday, and Rev. Emily Riley Campbell’s Candidating Service as FPCP’s membership prepared to vote on her nomination to the position of Senior Pastor of this church.

We began by looking at the idea of Memorial or Remembrance Day, and remembering that freedom comes at a price, whether the freedom is gained as a citizen of this country by the sacrifice of our military and other patriots, or as a citizen of heaven at the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.  It’s easy to forget the sacrifices made for us.  We can experience the price that Christ Jesus paid as we look at the 28 seasons outlined in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8.  And despite the fact that a number of the prices paid were terrible, everything always becomes beautiful it it’s time.

Based on Ecclesiastes 3:1-11.

Following the sermon, a Congregational Meeting was held to review and then vote on the nomination of Rev. Emily Riley Campbell to be Senior Minister at FPCP, including the terms of call for this position.  After the written ballots were counted, by a near-unanimous vote, Rev. Campbell was approved as FPCP’s nominee to fill the position.  The next step will be to take the recommendation to the next Detroit Presbytery meeting, scheduled to take place on Tuesday, June 25th, where the recommendation must pass by 75% of the vote.  Assuming approval, Rev. Campbell will assume the duties of FPCP’s Sr. Minister immediately, and we will hold a service of installation for Rev. Campbell in late September.

PLEASE NOTE: The video and audio recordings of todays service ONLY include the service (both include the entire service).  The Congregation Meeting portion is not included.
