Maundy Thursday: we are continuing our Lenten sermon series with ‘A Portrait of God: The God Who Serves.’
Holy Week is a time of moving away from the expected and embracing God’s unexpected. Sometimes life demands that we change our focus to where God is challenging us amid our current reality. This was true for both Jesus and the disciples. Jesus had to change his focus from teacher and healer to servant and savior. The disciples had to change their focus from students to teachers and preachers of the gospel. The disciples never expected that the supper they shared with Jesus in the upper room would have been their last meal with him, and Jesus served that meal to his students to strengthen and equip them for all the changes ahead.
Today, Jesus shares this same meal with us to strengthen and equip us for the many changes and challenges that we are facing in today’s world. Let’s take a look at the way he has done this.
Based on Luke 22:7-20 and Revelation 21:1-5.
