What We Believe

What We Believe

Our Core Values:

We are Christ-centered.

In our worship, mission, fellowship and study we are focused on the saving work of Jesus Christ and the difference that Christ makes to our lives today and throughout eternity.

We are mission minded.

Following the directive of Acts 1: 8, we are committed to serving as witnesses of Jesus Christ in our local community, within the wider city of Detroit, within our nation and world. As a church, our mission partnerships in each of these areas intentionally go deep rather than wide in scope.

We are growing in faith.

As a church, we are committed to providing educational and mission opportunities for all ages.  There is never an age where we should stop seeking to grow in faith, knowledge, or service.

We are cultivating community.

We believe that God has brought us together and has placed us within this community. We therefore seek to strengthen our fellowship with one another while we strengthen our engagement with the wider Plymouth community.

We are serving out of strengths.

We recognize that God has gifted each person with gifts and talents which should be used to the glory of God.  We seek to encourage each member to identify those gifts and find creative and practical ways of offering these gifts back to God.

“We are a family of faith, called to celebrate God’s message of love and forgiveness in Jesus Christ. Guided by the living Word of God, we nurture one another through worship, prayer, teaching, and fellowship. Led by the Holy Spirit, we reach out with hearts and hands to those in need, seeking to inspire hope in an ever-changing community and world.”

Our Purpose

Our Affiliation

First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA). We proudly uphold the tenets of the Reformed faith, including the sovereignty of God, the authority of the scripture, justification by grace through faith, and the ministry of all believers.

As a Family of Faith, we support one another on this journey of faith and proclaim the good news about the love of God that has been made fully known to us through the person of Jesus Christ. All are invited to share in this common ministry, which is why our church is governed by a combination of laity and clergy, women, and men alike.
